Caden84 (John VanHaaren III) is a singer, guitarist and drummer from the Traverse City and Cadillac area of northern Michigan. He writes, plays and records most of his solo music himself, handling guitars and vocals along with drums, bass, piano and beats. His sound runs from grunge and metal to dark rock and electronic music.

He has been making records for two decades. His solo project MULTIPLICITY released a self-titled album in 2005 (remastered in 2019), and he fronted the grunge-metal trio WARNING on guitar and vocals. He also played in FORGIVENSOUL and in the three-piece Death Of Affection with Jeremy West and his brother James “Freak” VanHaaren. His solo catalog includes Inclination, the electronic album Digi, the Fog EP (2020) and, since 2025, a run of Caden84 singles including “Under Pressure,” “Shadows Eternal” and “Red Dust Rebirth.”

During the WARNING years, the band briefly joined forces with another musician and became Drama Never Ends. That lineup never played a show, and it ended with the band parting ways with him. The songs Caden co-wrote during that period were never used or released. WARNING regrouped under its own name and called its 2010 album The End of Drama to mark the close of that chapter.

These days he also plays in Union of Souls, a three-piece power rock band from Cadillac, Michigan. He and Jim Steele trade places from song to song: Caden plays drums and sings harmony, or steps out front on guitar and lead vocals while Jim moves behind the kit. Pete Henry plays bass. The band has opened for Taproot, Sponge, Ozzy Reborne and Graves Crossing, and their self-titled album is finished and coming soon. The Union of Souls site is coming soon.
